Maine boasts the second largest moose population in the United States, Alaska being number one. If you are one of the lucky people drawn for a permit, you're in for a great experience.
Be prepared for a lot of hard work and strenuous hunting. We will use the spot and stalk method: waiting on well used trails; drifting along stretches of remote waterways; and of course calling, as the hunt takes place during the mating season. I offer two hunting packages-Trophy and Non-Trophy. Both packages are fully guided and include meals, lodging, transportation to hunting area, and recovery of moose.
For the Trophy Hunter wishing a rack of 48" spread or better, I will locate and pattern a trophy moos prior to your hunt. Most of the trophy hunt is very diligent pre-season scouting. Most trophy sized moos live off the beat-in path, so be prepared to hunt hard.
For the Non-Trophy Hunter wishing a small bull or a cow, this hunt is much easier because we are not looking for trophy antlers. Cows and young bulls are also more abundant. It is possible to harvest a trophy on this hunt, but we will not hunt them specifically.
Prime Time Moose Hunts operates in Wildlife Management Districts 11, 19, and 28. Applications should be available by late January.
